Most recent updates on the project, two articles and two pilots' interviews.
Dear readers,
We are happy to share the important progress made within FLEXIndustries.
In May 2025, one of our RTOs, Fondazione Bruno Kessler, hosted a crucial General Assembly, where, in addition to showcasing and discussing recent progress, the consortium was shown for the first time an integrated interface representing the functionality provided by the Dynamic Energy and Process Management Platform of FLEXIndustries. As a result, the pipelines executed by the system, simulation models, results generated by optimisations, and KPIs obtained are now accessible to users.
In addition, 1-to-1 workshops with the demonstrators and replicators were held to focus on recent advances regarding both the implementation of the technologies at the pilot sites and the readiness to interface with the platform.
The general meeting concluded with a plant tour of Suanfarma, one of the FLEXIndustries demonstrators. During the visit, the partners were able to see the recent installation of the BESS and the Heat Pump.
Overall, the event was a key moment to define the next steps and how to meet the challenges FLEXIndustries is facing.
Regarding technical progress, two main objectives have been achieved: the first focused on flexibility assessments and the definition of the project framework, while the second concentrated on the design and development of technological solutions. Moreover, significant progress has been made on the modules to be implemented within the platform developed in FLEXIndustries, which will bring the user experience to a more advanced level.
The monitoring phase has begun, and initial data are being received and analyzed. Additional webinars have been held, focusing on the solutions developed for the STOMANA and MILOIL demonstrators, expanding the perspective on these pilot sites. Furthermore, another webinar was organized focusing on the technologies implemented at SUANFARMA.
On the international cooperation front, three insightful webinars were conducted featuring distinguished professors from three prestigious U.S. universities, addressing energy and flexibility-related topics.
Overall, the project is facing — and will continue to face — various challenges, particularly related to the implementation of the FLEXIndustries platform in some demo sites. Nonetheless, the project remains fully on track to achieve its objectives: to improve energy management, reduce energy consumption, and lower emissions in highly energy-intensive industrial sectors.
