The FLEXINDUSTRIES project is pleased to announce the successful completion of its third webinar, moderated by Martina Losito from RINA-C and featuring Francesco Ghionda from Fondazione Bruno Kessler as the main speaker. The session focused on “Grid-Connected Decarbonization and Flexibility Technologies in Industrial Plants” offering valuable insights into Italy’s demo case efforts toward a greener, more resilient industrial sector.
Mr. Ghionda opened the discussion by underlining the urgency of decarbonizing the industrial sector, which accounts for roughly 27% of the EU’s total final energy consumption. In light of EU targets set by the European Green Deal and the Fit for 55 package, he explored key levers for transformation: integrating renewable energy sources, deploying digital twins, recovering waste heat, and implementing intelligent energy management systems.
The webinar also showcased the FLEXINDUSTRIES demonstration site at Suanfarma Italia, a pharmaceutical company reliant on continuous, energy-intensive processes. As part of its green and digital transition, Suanfarma has integrated photovoltaic systems, battery energy storage system (BESS), and a high-temperature heat pump (HTHP), enabling both decarbonization and operational flexibility. Additionally, a smart Energy Management System has been implemented and linked to the FLEXINDUSTRIES platform, enhancing data-driven optimization and energy awareness.
