A video interviews series to present the FLEXIndustries pilots
The “INTERVIEWS WITH THE PILOTS” series is now halfway through, and for its third episode the lights are on Luis Carlos Correas Usón, representing FERTINAGRO Nutrigenia within the FLEXIndustries project. FERTINAGRO is a fertiliser company which produce up to 800 references of different fertiliser products for plant nutrition and with different plants throughout Europe, especially in Spain.
One of the bigger energy problem they encounter in the daily production processes is the energy consumption coming from water evaporation: “Now fertiliser is basically natural gas converted into fertilisers, so we must get rid of that, but also we need some electricity” noted Correas. And this need is most of the time satisfied by the fact that their plants are located in Spain, where the huge amount of solar resources available can be easily converted into the electricity they consume.
“But the sun doesn’t shine every day”, and this is the biggest challenge that FERTINAGRO would like to investigate through its participation in the FLEXIndustries project: to cope with the variability of electricity production from photovoltaics.
